Chai, in the five scripts on our wall.

It started with a cup of chai

Some memories don’t need a photograph.

They come back with the first sip of chai.

The sound of tea simmering in the kitchen. The aroma of freshly brewed tea filling the room. Conversations with family, evenings with friends, college canteens, roadside tapris, and those simple moments that somehow stay with us for years.

Project Chai was born from that feeling.

In 2021, we began our research and development journey with one simple question:

Can we create a chai that tastes like home?

Not just another cup of tea. Not something overly complicated. But a carefully crafted blend that brings back the familiar taste, aroma, warmth, and memories that make chai so special.

Years of chai experience, one perfect blend

Behind Project Chai is a team of chai enthusiasts with over 22 years of experience in the field.

Years of understanding tea. Years of experimenting with blends. Years of learning that the difference between an ordinary cup and a memorable cup often comes down to the smallest details.

Our journey involved countless trials, adjustments, tastings, and conversations around what makes a truly satisfying cup of chai.

We weren’t looking to simply create a tea product.

We were looking to recreate a feeling.

The result is our carefully developed chai blend — created to deliver a comforting, familiar taste that takes you back to the chai you grew up with.

More than chai

For us, chai has never been just a beverage.

It’s an excuse to sit down and talk.

It’s the first cup in the morning, the break in the middle of a busy day, the conversation that lasts longer than expected, and the little ritual that makes an ordinary moment feel special.

That’s what we want Project Chai to represent.

Chai. Memories. Moments.

We want to bring that feeling to homes, cafés, workplaces, and communities across Canada — and eventually wherever people miss the taste of home.

The chai journey

The six stages on our wall, from the garden to the cup in your hand.

  1. Plucking the leaves

Where mist meets mountain and patience meets purpose,

The finest leaves are chosen before the world wakes up.

  2. Withering

Laid out to breathe, the leaves slowly release their youth.

What remains is deeper, truer, ready to become something more.

  3. Rolling

With every spin of the wheel, a story takes shape.

Made not just by hands, but by generations of tradition.

  4. Oxidation & drying

Time is the secret ingredient no machine can replace.

Here, the leaf transforms — gaining colour, character, and depth.

  5. Sorting & grading

Not every leaf earns its place in the cup.

Only the finest are chosen — by hand, by eye, by instinct.

  6. The final cup

At the end of a long journey through gardens and hands,

Waits a cup that feels less like a drink, more like coming home.

Where it starts

Before it is a cup, it is a field

Every leaf on our menu is picked by hand, two leaves and a bud at a time. We buy whole leaf, never dust, and we brew it strong enough to stand up to milk.

Aerial view of a tea hillside planted in curving rows, a single picker in a red jacket working between them with a cane basket.
01The rows. One picker, mid-morning, working a hillside planted on the contour.
Close view of a hand reaching into a tea bush to pick the topmost bud and two young leaves.
02Two leaves and a bud. The only part of the plant worth taking. Everything below it is stalk.
Four tea pickers in broad woven hats moving through waist-high tea bushes with green baskets on their backs.
03The line. Baskets ride the shoulders; the pluck happens faster than the eye follows.

Our intention

Our goal is simple:

To make great chai more accessible without losing what makes it special.

We want every cup of Project Chai to feel familiar. Honest. Comforting.

A cup that doesn’t just taste good, but makes you pause for a moment and remember something.

Because the best chai isn’t only about the ingredients.

It’s about the memories it brings back.

And that’s the idea behind Project Chai.
